Lake Ray Hubbard Guide

LAKE RAY HUBBARD

21,671 acres

WHY:

Located under half an hour from downtown Dallas, Lake Ray Hubbard is one of the largest lakes in north Texas. While most notable for abundant hybrid striped bass and blue catfish, submerged vegetation has vastly improved largemouth bass angling. The largemouth record is 14.10 pounds.

WHERE:

Under 40 minutes from Dallas/Fort Worth Airport and an easy drive from downtown Dallas, the nearest cities are Garland and Rowlett.

WHEN:

In Texas spawning begins in the spring when water temperatures reach about 60°F, but successful angling can happen year-round in Texas.

HOW:

Largemouth bass will be found around vegetation or along riprap. In the area above Interstate 30, standing timber is the most abundant structure and cover in Lake Ray Hubbard. Hydrilla is found in certain areas and attracts largemouth bass. The rock riprap along roadways that cross the reservoir is excellent for fishing.
